Derek MeierDerek Meier was born and raised in a small town in southwest Minnesota. His parents, Dale and Jackie Meier, always encouraged him to be active in the arts, whether it was music or the visual arts. After years of participation in both fields, he decided to pursue a degree in the studio arts at the University of South Dakota.He soon gravitated towards painting as his primary focus, but continued his work with drawing, collage, and eventually printing. After graduation he intends to pursue a Master of Fine Arts, and hopes he will eventually find himself in a position to teach others. His work is a constant play with the visual influences around him. They are about working and reworking the surface until he feels it is resolved.
